Native American Resource Center | Partner Story
On the Western Slope of Colorado, many members of native tribes are critically underserved. Not only is there a lack of resources but the resources that are available aren’t sensitive to the cultural needs of the people they’re meant to serve. Monique Sturgeon and the The Western Slope Native American Resource Center (WSNARC) aim to change that - providing culturally-responsive healthcare services to American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) families living on the Western Slope.
The Western Slope Native American Resource Center | “Building From Within” | RMHP Partner Story
Our Mission: Create a documentary short about Monique Sturgeon, and her efforts to create a place where Native Americans on the Western Slope of Colorado can go for healthcare and other resources. And show how their work is supported by Rocky Mountain Health Plans.
The Challenge: Our biggest challenge was finding a place to shoot the footage and interviews to properly tell this story. WSNARC currently doesn’t have a physical location, and it proved very difficult to film on tribal lands.
The Solution: We found a beautiful ranch in Southwest Colorado overlooking the Ute Mountains where we could not only film Monique’s interview, but also capture stunning footage and aerials with her and her team. This also became the place where we housed our production crew. A win-win!
Deliverables: 1 main story, and shorter versions for social media. In addition, we delivered a package of still photos the team was able to leverage for their landing pages and across social media.
This is one in a series of video stories we created for Rocky Mountain Health Plans - collectively shown here.

“I recently had the opportunity to work with Tom Miller and the Big Pictures team on a series of healthcare videos, and I can’t say enough what a pleasure it was. From the early planning phases through the final edits, Tom and the entire team were so helpful and talented at what they do. Tom has a special gift at asking the right questions at the right time to really capture the story and the visuals to go with it. Big Pictures made it so fun, positive, and an all around great experience. Plus, the final videos are excellent!”
